1952

The founding father, Aldo Breda, migrated to Australia at the age of nineteen

 

 
1952

After a period in Brisbane & Toowoomba, Aldo returned to Sydney, where he worked for a number of other companies to gain further experience in his chosen field.

Aldo decided to go into business with a partner and together they formed “Villata & Breda”

The company name changed to, ‘A. Breda Building Co Pty Ltd when Aldo decided to buy out his partner’s shares and become the sole owner.
 
 
1971

Employee numbers had expanded to 18 workers & it became evident that the existing workshop was just not big enough. So Aldo built a new factory for his company at 52 Allingham St, Condell Park (the same site APR currently occupies).

 

 

1975

Hand held tools were the standard in the industry, but Aldo could see the vast benefits of newer technology and began sourcing machinery that was at the time only available overseas

 

 
1981 – 1982

Aldo’s two sons completed their HSCs and joined their father in the business (Peter focusing on the construction building side of the business & Robert on the detailed joinery side) & studied to acquire certification in Carpentry and Joinery, Foreman of Works & Builder’s Licences.

 
1985

This trend of ensuring the company moved forward technologically continued when the firm bought its first CNC router

 

1986

Both sons excelled in their tertiary studies & by the time that Robert obtained his proficiency in Carpentry & Joinery, he had amassed awards such as First Place in Carpentry & Joinery Stage 3 and he also became the recipient of the Jack Leslie Honours Award for the Highest Pass at that level.

 
1992

APR shift more into the Corporate Furniture market offering items such: large boardroom table tops, meeting tables, workstation, reception desks, credenzas, etc.

 
1993

Peter & Robert became sole Directors. Peter managed A. Breda Building Company where he continued doing mainly commercial building works (including those for the National Bank and numerous architects) whilst Robert managed APR Detailed Joinery.

 
1995

APR commenced offering in-house stitching, pressing and staining of veneer furniture within the factory. This paved the way for forging a working with many esteemed companies.

 
2000

A huge leap was made when we installed both an enclosed & open faced spray booth within the factory to enable superior finishing of veneer & solid timber products from start to finish, making APR a one-stop operation. We also introduced our slogan ‘the total solution’, to reflect our ability to be able to totally control our production from start to
finish, all in-house.

 
2004

Robert became sole director of both Breda Building Company & APR Detailed Joinery.

 

 

2005

Huge technological advancements saw us again leap into the forefront of the industry when we purchased a computerised Beam Saw & Edge Bander to cater for ever increasing demands of corporate furniture.

 

 

2007

We increased the computerised machinery within our factory with the purchase of a new Venture 3 CNC Router.

 
2008

The latest computerised Crossband Sander & Panel Saw were purchased to further improve production.

 
2009

APR was honoured to be the first joiner/panel layer to be inducted as a member of the Timber Veneers Association of Australia.

 
2010

Upon the installation of an Australian first energy efficient air compressor and extraction system, APR were recipients of a Retooling for Climate Change grant, showing our dedication to not only customer satisfaction & the manufacture of quality products but also to the environment…ensuring an industry for the future.

 

2011

Thinking Ergonomix approached APR to work with them in the manufacture & development of a new environmentally friendly furniture range. The combined efforts paid off with awards in the following: Winner of the “Australian International Design Award” & finalist in the “FX International Awards” in London.

 
2012

A State of the Art custom built Sprayed Coatings Facility was constructed within the factory to further enhance the skills of our five-man team of qualified French Polishers, to ensure the perfect finish of every item produced.

 
2014

To ensure the continued support & growth of the industry, APR proudly became a sponsor of the Australian Design Awards in the Furniture and Joinery Award Division.

 

 

2015

For the 2nd year running, Robert was honoured to present at The Australian Institute of Architects Annual Seminar. APR continued to Sponsor the Australian Timber Design Awards, but also increasingly featured in the media, in magazines such as Australian House & Garden and the National Building Design Awards, as well as, featuring on the television program; Best Houses Australia. It also saw the launch of some new APR exclusive products; Metalwood & Truemetal.

 

 

2016

APR completed a total upgrade of machinery in the veneering department, with the purchase of a new guillotine, splicer, and press. Robert also spent this year networking and building new relationships within the industry. He traveled interstate training our clients and traveled internationally to attend Orgatec.

 

2017

This year marks 30 years in business. Robert and his team of experienced craftsmen are celebrating alongside their long list of loyal clients their 3 decades of achievements. APR enter into the future with a new vision for the business, we have invested in cutting edge machinery which will take us to the next level.
